About Us:

One Rail Australia Pty Ltd (ORA) is a progressive and established rail owner and operator in South Australia, New South Wales and the Northern Territory with over 650 staff. Within Australia ORA owns and operates the 2,200km Tarcoola to Darwin railroad as well as a number of New South Wales and regional South Australian railroads servicing bulk minerals and agricultural customers.


About the Role:

ORA prides itself on its supreme customer service and commitment to safety, ORA is looking for a likeminded candidate to fill a Trainee Locomotive Driver role.


This position will be based in Whyalla.


ORA will support you through and provide you with all the training you need to become a fully Qualified Locomotive Driver. Upon completion of your training contract, which will take approximately 2 1/2 – 3 years, you will be able to operate a locomotive and provide operational support to ensure the safe and efficient working of short haul train movements throughout the Whyalla region.

About You:

ORA is looking for candidates with various backgrounds who want to build an exciting and rewarding career as a Locomotive Driver. Previous industry experience is not a requirement of this role; however, it is essential that you are able to demonstrate the following:


§  Sound mechanical aptitude

§  Above average numeracy and literacy skills

§  Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot challenges as they arise

§  Proven ability to maintain high levels of concentration for long periods of time

§  Dedicated commitment to safety including working within stringent safety protocols and procedures at all times

§  Ability to work a 24/7 roster including night shifts, weekends and public holidays

§  The ability to work as part of a team and the rail community

§  Hold an unrestricted motor vehicle licence


The Process:

As part of ORA’s recruitment and selection process, short listed applicants will be required to:

§  Successfully complete literacy, numeracy, mechanical comprehension and concentration testing

§  Provide a recent national criminal history check

§  Successfully complete a Category 1 pre-employment health assessment
