 About the Role

We are seeking applications from motivated workers who are eager to enter the rail industry and learn a trade. The Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician apprenticeship is based in the Rollingstock maintenance facilities at Dry Creek and Whyalla (South Australia). You will work amongst a highly skilled and diverse Rollingstock Maintenance team and have the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills.


Working as part of the Rollingstock Maintenance team, your duties will include

  • Perform planned service work on wagons or locomotives.
  • Perform unplanned work on wagons/locomotives associated with failures and preventative maintenance.
  • Perform other tasks as required including, fuelling, sanding, locomotive washing and provisioning.
  • Perform mechanical work on all other rollingstock, including crew cars and fuel wagons.
  • Use of computerised maintenance management systems.
  • Participate in and contribute to workshop safety programs and initiatives.

About You

You will be motivated, eager to learn and have a strong commitment to safety. Additionally, to be successful in the role you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Sound Mechanical Aptitude.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot challenges as they arise.
  • Proven ability to maintain high levels of concentration for long periods of time.
  • Dedicated commitment to safety including working within stringent safety protocols and procedures at all times.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • Enthusiastic with a strong interest in learning and obtaining a trade.
  • Technically minded person with interest in emerging technology and good computer skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the ORA Values.
